Languedoc Rousillon is one of the Mediterraneans most glorious regions. The area enjoys more than 300 days of sunshine a year.

The area abounds with medieval towns and villages, and is steeped in history from Romans, Cathars and Templar Knights.

If it is beaches you want, the area has 100s to choose from, lovely stretches of sand all along the coast, our favourite one being 25 minutes from the house.

SPORTS AND OUTDOOR

For the more adventurous, the area offers plenty of outdoor activities such as canoeing, sailing, white water rafting, climbing and mountain walking. For skiing, the Pyrenees is one hour South (you can see the snow capped mountains from our terrace on a clear day). For fresh water swimming, there is lake Salagou which has a list of calendar events during the summer. The Gorge D'Heric is 40 minutes away, great for picnicking and dipping into fresh water pools. There is a great little road train which takes you on a picturesque journey up the gorge to see all the foaming waters of the Heric. Closer to the house, there is also lake swimming in Vailhan (5 minutes drive).

BEACHES

Cap D'Agde is 1/2 hours drive away, with numerous beaches and Aqualand. For longer excursions, visit the up and coming city of Montpellier, or perhaps Nimes with of the the best preserved Roman Ampitheatres. The World Heritage site of Carcassonne is about one hours drive, or how about driving or catching the train to Barcelona (3 hours drive).

PEZENAS

The vibrant artisan town of Pezenas is only a 10 minutes drive. In the summer months it is buzzing with individual art shops, antiques and wonderful pavement cafes and restaurants. Throughout the year there is a brilliant Saturday market. It is an outstanding town with something for everyone, our Children love it.
